As the program has changed over the years and staff has come and gone, so too has the form of the program. Racing has changed, and the athletes have changed. Youth participation at XC events has changed, and their needs have changed.
The team will no longer operate as a non-profit and will not seek monetary donations for support.
The non-profit corporation has restructured and renamed itself to serve a wider cycling community and has separated itself from the team operations and the team name.
2018 Summer Camp
July 6 is tentative start to training camp. This will be aimed at the Cat I & II level racers. Training on tap, lots of rides, but faster and with more climbing, err suffering. This will be a one-week camp. Details soon.
Nick and Palmer kick off the season in the SERC series junior class. Warmer weather and sunny skies in Newberry, FL gave racers excellent opportunity to stretch their legs and sharpen their skills at Hailes Trails.
No 2017 Camp is scheduled for this year. Check back for 2018 dates.
June 11-17 were the dates for Junior MTB Camp 2016.
Space is limited to about 15 this year. www.devocamp.com
Order kits now for this season. We do have a few items from 2015. We will use the same kit for two years to help riders. We have an XS and a S skinsuit and a few jerseys new ready to race.
While the junior racing has tapered off for the year we were able to catch up with our CycleYouth alumni who raced collegiate national championships last weekend at Snowshoe, WV.
Both D1 and D2 had claims for the title with Luke and Cory taking home jerseys for wins in the endurance events.
In the individual omnium standings Luke also wins the Stars and Stripes while the D2 podium was swept from first to fourth with our alumni - Cory, Elliott, Kyle and Wes.
We are proud of our riders, and hope CycleYouth can continue to see these scholarships come to our athletes offering opportunity in the classroom and on the race course.
A Look Ahead
2016 season planning has begun. After many, many years of request CycleYouth is going to add a new element to the organization.
As the team focus narrows to fewer riders we still want to help as many aspiring young athletes as we can. The Club will offer more group rides in great locations and riding clinics for ages 10-18. Emphasis is on fun and comradery with bikes.
The club riders have the option to feed into the Team CycleYouth program where we put more emphasis on national and international competition.
Both SERC and GSC finals were held at the Helen XC course.
Summer MTB Camp
Juniors over the SE are getting ready for the highlight of their year: Summer camp is the most fun event for the racers, and the staff members have an equally fun times living the life of riding bikes on beautiful trails in a beautiful setting.
CycleYouth recommends checking out Devo Camp for your junior rider or racer. The camp is aimed at cat 1 and 2 level racers.
While this is a team camp, other juniors are welcome to attend and get a rewarding experience out of it. This is on the top of the must-do list for young racers. devocamp
As the racing progresses the series points stack up. In our juniors field the most narrow standings are in the 15-18 group with Jack in a secure lead, but Colton in a tie for 3rd in GSC and 4th in SERC. Marco and Evan, in the middle age of this group, holding 8 and 10 respectively.
Drew keeps charging forward and takes 6 at the hot and dusty SERC/GSC combo at Dauset Nature Center and Henry in 7 in the younger group. Carter has age up into the Expert Sr group and took a solid 7.
The April 19 SBES 4-Hour race has been rescheduled for May 9.
This new date is a Saturday.
Due to forecasted thunderstorms for the original
date we felt it was best for the safety of everyone.
All start times and race details remain the same.
Racing has begun
4-25 After rain all week, the trails of SERC #4 at Fort Yargo opened their peanutbutter'ie jar of goodness. Colton Davis, spattered and speckled from the mud, completes lap 1 of 2 with his competition close in tow (see photo). Jack Brown would win Cat II juniors for the team and Colton in 3rd with Evan and Marco not far behind.
In Cat III Drew sees a slightly less muddy course racing 2 hours later finishing 8th, while Harrison Knight, coming back after injury, wins the younger Cat III race followed by Henry in 7th.
Carter, once again vying for most-improved rider of the year, yet after a strong first lap, battles Hayden, the two taking 9th and 11th in 19-39 Ex.
Team Ride at Tribble Mill
Sunday, January 25, 1pm. We will ride the upcoming 3/6 hour race course (www.chainbusterracing.com) then ride other trails. Beginners and new team prospects welcome. Ages 12-18.

The 11-14 and 15-18 (beginner distance) classes are still the largest junior fields
